Spiral wound gaskets are typically used in pipelines and pressure vessels in the chemical and petroleum industry. They are suitable for use in very corrosive and high temperature environments. They consist of a metal strip spirally wound in combination with a soft, filler material like PTFE, graphite or a non-asbestos. The metal strip ensures good recovery whilst the flexible filler provides excellent sealing.
