At R4 Gaskets, we understand that choosing and measuring the correct gasket can be challenging due to the wide range of types and terminology. To simplify the process, we’ve created this guide to help you accurately measure your gasket. This ensures that we manufacture a gasket to your precise specifications, eliminating any guesswork. Below, we cover two of the most commonly requested types of gaskets, along with the necessary steps to provide exact measurements.

Flange Gaskets: Measuring Guide

Flange gaskets are among the most common gasket types, typically circular and often available with or without bolt holes based on specific needs. Here’s how to measure key dimensions:

  1. Inner and Outer Diameters (ID and OD)

These two dimensions are crucial for ensuring a proper fit. Use a tape measure or ruler, measuring from edge to edge across the gasket’s face to determine the inner (ID) and outer (OD) diameters.

  1. Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD)

For flange gaskets with bolt holes, measuring the pitch circle diameter is essential. This involves measuring the gap between opposite holes. A digital calliper is ideal for accuracy, but a tape measure or ruler works as well. Measure from the inside of one hole directly across to the inside of the opposite hole. Note: This method assumes that all bolt hole diameters are the same.

Picture Frame Gaskets: Measuring Guide

These gaskets are typically square or rectangular and require both outside and inside dimensions. For rectangular picture frame gaskets, multiple measurements may be needed to capture the exact size:

Outer and Inner Measurements: Ensure these are taken for a precise fit.

Bolt Holes and Spacing: Check for any bolt holes around the frame and verify the diameter and spacing, as they may vary.
